Conrad Mason,Christa Unzner: Macbeth

Macbeth

Description

This is a new title in "Young Reading Series Two", which is aimed at children whose reading ability and confidence allows them to tackle longer and more complex stories. It presents Shakespeare's classic tale of madness and murder, treachery and witchcraft retold for a younger audience. It is developed in consultation with Alison Kelly, who is a senior lecturer in education and an early reading specialist from Roehampton University.

This pattern book provides over 100 woodcarving patterns and accompanying illustrations for 72 birds, animals, and fish. Each pattern has been used successfully by both Russell and his students to carve stunning figures in wood. While the patterns are the primary focus, general carving instructions for birds, animals, and fish are provided. Guidelines for enhancing the figures produced from these patterns include accurate glass eye placement, construction of wire birds' feet, and texturing techniques. Illustrations detail directional growth for fur, feather shading, and other fine attributes on the many subjects. This is an essential reference for every woodcarver with a passion for wildlife. A tale about a boy's vision of the world beyond, and the blurry distinctions between the natural and supernatural. At twelve years old, Morton -- Ort for short -- is not quite a child, but not yet an adult; his isolated outback world is an intriguing combination of boyish innocence, adolescent confusion and burgeoning awareness. When his father is seriously injured in a car crash, however, that world is suddenly thrown into complete disarray and the whole family have to adjust. As Ort, his sister, mother and grandmother are struggling to come to terms with what has happened, a stranger appears in their midst. Preaching God's word, Henry Warburton's unexpected arrival seems eerily prescient, at a time when the family most need a helping hand, and Henry quickly makes himself indispensable. In fact, for Ort in particular, it Amanda's Wedding pdf is Henry's presence, perhaps more even than his father's accident, that brings the greatest change to his world. 'Towards the end of the novel Ort prays for a miracle: "Funny when you talk to God. He's like the sky ...Never says anything. But you know he listens." Though God hasn't answered Ort yet, Mr.

Amanda's Wedding

Description

A deliciously warm novel from the best-selling author of Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe and The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris. Amanda's old schoolfriends can't believe it when the social-climbing queen of preen, Satan's very own PR girl, pulls off the ultimate publicity stunt in getting herself engaged to a Scottish laird. Who cares that Fraser McConnald has worn the same pair of Converse trainers for the last three years and that his castle is a pile of rubble with one calor gas heater - she'll be titled! Something Must Be Done. Gentle, decent Fraser is clearly ignorant of her wiles, and Mel and Fran, still smarting from the memory of all the mean things Amanda put them through in their days at Portmount Comprehensive, set out to sabotage this mismatch of the century. So between fighting off the attentions of a love-crazed accountant, keeping Fran's deadly manoeuvres with the opposite sex under control and trying to win her own war of love with the elusive but gorgeous Alex, Mel finds herself attending a wild Scottish stag night, a hen night from hell, and preparing for a wedding that's everything you'd wish on your worst enemy.

Capitalism's Crisis Deepens: Essays on the Global Economic Meltdown 2010-2014

Description

Praise for Richard Wolff and "Democracy at Work" "Richard Wolff's constructive and innovative ideas suggest new and promising foundations for much more authentic democracy and sustainable and equitable development, ideas that can be implemented directly and carried forward. A very valuable contribution in troubled times." Noam Chomsky"Richard Wolff is the leading socialist economist in the country. This book is required reading for anyone concerned about a fundamental transformation of the ailing capitalist economy!" Cornel West"Bold, thoughtful, transformative-a powerful and challenging vision that takes us beyond both corporate capitalism and state socialism. Richard Wolff at his best!" Gar AlperovitzWhile most mainstream commentators view the crisis that provoked the Great Recession as having passed, these essays from Richard Wolff paint a far less rosy picture. Drawing attention to the extreme downturn in most of capitalism's old centers, the unequal growth in its new centers, and the resurgence of a global speculative bubble, Wolff in his uniquely accessible style makes the case that the crisis should be grasped not as a passing moment, but as an evolving stage in capitalism's history.Richard Wolff is Professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Visiting Professor at the New School in New York. Wolff's recent work has concentrated on analyzing the causes and alternative solutions to the global economic crisis. His groundbreaking book "Democracy at Work: A Cure for Capitalism "inspired the creation of Democracy at Work, a nonprofit organization dedicated to showing how and why to make democratic workplaces real."

You can learn how to practice reflexology with this all-encompassing guide. Discover the origins of reflexology and how it works, then learn through the step-by-step Capitalism's Crisis Deepens: Essays on the Global Economic Meltdown 2010-2014 free ebook guides how to master a variety of foot and hand reflexology routines. "The Complete Reflexology Tutor" clearly points the body's reflex points and how best to work them. However, this book is not merely for the beginner. For the more advanced reflexologist, there is practical advice on how to establish yourself as a reflexologist. "It's that sort of artwork which looks like it was never made by anyone, it simply exists in its own realm." --Paul Pope, Battling Boy "Airbrushed insanity." --Daniel Lopatin, Oneohtrix Point Never Floodgate Companion is comprised of previously unseen artwork recalling the heyday of paperback sci-fi, experimental animation, and the outsider realm of artist-released jazz and psychedelic records. This book brings the viewer into a world uniquely Beatty's own, moving stylistically through ink drawings, digital airbrush paintings, and psychedelic op-art collage framed in asemic type to create a cosmic and immersive artifact. Robert Beatty emerged from the mid-2000s American noise music underground to become one of the most sought-after figures in contemporary album art, designing upwards of seventy-five record covers in the past ten years. His designs include award-winning album covers and logos for Tame Impala, Oneohtrix Point Never, Neon Indian, Real Estate, and Peaking Lights. In addition to album art Beatty creates installations and illustrations for publications as diverse as Lucky Peach, The Wire Magazine, and The New York Times.

A Prayer Before Dawn: A Nightmare in Thailand is the true story of one man's fight for survival inside Klong Prem Prison, the notorious Bangkok Hilton'. Billy Moore travelled to Thailand to escape a life of drug addiction and alcoholism, but relapsed after trying ya ba - a highly-addictive form of methamphetamine. Moore's life descended into chaos, drug dealing and violence in Thailand until he was imprisoned in Klong Prem, a place where life has no value. This is no ordinary prison memoir; it's the story of one man's struggle to survive.' God, Man and History represents the first volume in a series of reissues of the works of Eliezer Berkovits, published by Shalem Press under the aegis of the Eliezer Berkovits Institute of Jewish Thought at the Shalem Center. Of all of Berkovits' work, God, Man and History may be regarded Our Story, for My Son free pdf as the keystone. It examines the underpinnings of Judaism as a whole, from theology to law to the meaning of Jewish nationhood. Bob Jessop: The State: Past, Present, Future

The State: Past, Present, Future

Description

Debates about the role and nature of the state are at the heart of modern politics. However, the state itself remains notoriously difficult to define, and the term is subject to a range of different interpretations. In this book, distinguished state theorist Bob Jessop provides a critical introduction to the state as both a concept and a reality. He lucidly guides readers through all the major accounts of the state, and examines competing efforts to relate the state to other features of social organization. Essential themes in the analysis of the state are explored in full, including state formation, periodization, the re-scaling of the state and the state's future. Throughout, Jessop clearly defines key terms, from hegemony and coercion to government and governance. He also analyses what we mean when we speak about 'normal' and 'exceptional' states, and states that are 'failed' or 'rogue'. Combining an accessible style with expert sensitivity to the complexities of the state, this short introduction will be core reading for students and scholars of politics and sociology, as well as anyone interested in the changing role of the state in contemporary societies.

Ronald J. Williams,John C. Beckman: Williams' Hebrew Syntax

Williams' Hebrew Syntax

Description

Although the morphology and lexicon of Hebrew are reasonably well understood, its syntax has long been a neglected area of study. Syntax, the relationship of words to one another, forms, together with morphology, the material of grammar. Its relative importance varies according to the language considered. This is particularly true of word order, for when an inflected language loses its case endings, word order assumes many of the functions of the former cases. This outline by Professor Williams re-emphasizes the significance of word order in Hebrew. Developed over fifteen years in a formal course on Hebrew syntax at the University of Toronto, it treats the syntax of the noun, the verb, particles and clauses, with a selection of illustrative examples. Its contents are based on classical Hebrew prose, but some account is also taken of the deviations in later prose and poetry. In this new edition English translations have been provided for all Hebrew phrases and sentences, and the bibliography has been expanded.

David Mitchell: Cloud Atlas

Cloud Atlas

Description

By the "New York Times "bestselling author of "The Bone Clocks"- Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize A postmodern visionary and one of the leading voices in twenty-first-century fiction, David Mitchell combines flat-out adventure, a Nabokovian love of puzzles, a keen eye for character, and a taste for mind-bending, philosophical and scientific speculation in the tradition of Umberto Eco, Haruki Murakami, and Philip K. Dick. The result is brilliantly original fiction as profound as it is playful. In this groundbreaking novel, an influential favorite among a new generation of writers, Mitchell explores with daring artistry fundamental questions of reality and identity. "Cloud Atlas" begins in 1850 with Adam Ewing, an American notary voyaging from the Chatham Isles to his home in California. Along the way, Ewing is befriended by a physician, Dr. Goose, who begins to treat him for a rare species of brain parasite. . . . Abruptly, the action jumps to Belgium in 1931, where Robert Frobisher, a disinherited bisexual composer, contrives his way into the household of an infirm maestro who has a beguiling wife and a nubile daughter. . . . From there we jump to the West Coast in the 1970s and a troubled reporter named Luisa Rey, who stumbles upon a web of corporate greed and murder that threatens to claim her life. . . . And onward, with dazzling virtuosity, to an inglorious present-day England; to a Korean superstate of the near future where neocapitalism has run amok; and, finally, to a postapocalyptic Iron Age Hawaii in the last days of history. But the story doesn t end even there. The narrative then boomerangs back through centuries and space, returning by the same route, in reverse, to its starting point. Along the way, Mitchell reveals how his disparate characters connect, how their fates intertwine, and how their souls drift across time like clouds across the sky. As wild as a videogame, as mysterious as a Zen koan, "Cloud Atlas" is an unforgettable tour de force that, like its incomparable author, has transcended its cult classic status to become a worldwide phenomenon. Praise for"Cloud Atlas" [David] Mitchell is, clearly, a genius. He writes as though at the helm of some perpetual dream machine, can evidently do anything, and his ambition is written in magma across this novel s every page. "The New York Times Book Review" One of those how-the-holy-hell-did-he-do-it? modern classics that no doubt is and should be read by any student of contemporary literature. Dave Eggers Wildly entertaining . . . a head rush, both action-packed and chillingly ruminative. "People" The novel as series of nested dolls or Chinese boxes, a puzzle-book, and yet not just dazzling, amusing, or clever but heartbreaking and passionate, too. I ve never read anything quite like it, and I m grateful to have lived, for a while, in all its many worlds. Michael Chabon "Cloud Atlas"ought to make [Mitchell] famous on both sides of the Atlantic as a writer whose fearlessness is matched by his talent. "The Washington Post Book World" Thrilling . . . One of the biggest joys in"Cloud Atlas"is watching Mitchell sashay from genre to genre without a hitch in his dance step. "Boston Sunday Globe" Grand and elaborate . . . [Mitchell] creates a world and language at once foreign and strange, yet strikingly familiar and intimate. "Los Angeles Times" "From the Hardcover edition.""

Topics include: * arts and the State, with reference to the instrumentalism of the arts and culture * business and the arts * ownership and control of arts organizations * arts consumption and consumers, including audience development and arts marketing * managing for excellence and artistic integrity * financial investing in the arts, namely fine arts funds and theatre angels * philosophies of philanthropy Incorporating a deliberately diverse range of sources, Arts Management is essential reading for students on arts management courses and provides valuable insights for managers already facing the management challenges of this field. This book identifies eight key mechanisms that can transform a set of ideas into Cloud Atlas free download pdf a psychological flytrap. The author suggests that, like the black holes of outer space, from which nothing, not even light, can escape, our contemporary cultural landscape contains numerous intellectual black-holes belief systems constructed in such a way that unwary passers-by can similarly find themselves drawn in. While such self-sealing bubbles of belief will most easily trap the gullible or poorly educated, even the most intelligent and educated of us are potentially vulnerable. Some of the world s greatest thinkers have fallen in, never to escape.
